Established in 1984, Chrysalis believes that holding a steady job is the way to escape poverty. Since its creation, it has helped almost 60,000 individuals prepare for, find, and keep employment through educational programs, counseling, and resume preparation. The education offered includes job preparation workshops and one-on-one elements such as practice interviews and customer-service training.
All of those entering the program are from low-income areas, while other roadblocks include homelessness, criminal records, and histories of substance abuse.
The effects of Chrysalis are felt throughout Los Angeles County. Those who have participated in the program have increased their monthly work income by an average of 91 percent.
Along with a dedicated staff, volunteers can help the center by providing classroom facilitation, professional resume writing skills, and interview practice to those in need of aid.
